Matthew 5:13
You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, (how shall it be seasoned?) it is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
Salt in those times was used to:
1. Add flavor
2. Preserve meats
3. Purify and heal wounds
In this verse, salt represents love, meaning that we are the salt (love), and if love ends, the earth loses its flavor, is not purified or healed, and without preservation, it rots and will be thrown away (it rots).
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
