He is protective of you when He feels that you love someone more than Him, and your mind is occupied with someone else...

In the past, when the people of Israel made a statue and worshiped it, God was upset and hurt by them, and He told Moses to tell the people: The Lord your God is a jealous God (Exodus 20:5).
